Our Driveway Standards

Of course all Denver Concrete driveways meet ACI 2015 and IRC 2018 standards; however Denver Concrete Inc has it's own set of standards which is above and beyond that of code requirements. Building code is only set as a minimum guideline, in other words, at a minimum those specifications or requirements are "required". We have selected standards that we would want to see used at our own homes. We know that is exactly what our customers want as well.

Our commitment to satisfaction and to our customers is easy to see in our customer reviews and project completion. Read below for our standard specifications for our concrete driveway replacement and installation projects.

Reinforcement

Denver Concrete Inc reinforces every driveway we install with a minimum of #3 (3/8") Reinforcement Bar (Rebar) every 2' On Center. Our crew installs a grid and laces the grid at the perpendicular joints. This grid is then set on chairs so that it is "set" in the middle of the new 4" thick driveway pad.

4" Pour

When it comes to concrete driveways, we install with a  standard pour of 4 inches in thickness. This is key to ensuring your driveway can support vehicles with ease. And for those who want an extra boost in durability, we recommend upgrading to 6 inches in certain situations.

4,500 PSI Air Entrained Concrete

Driveway Seal

American Concrete Institute (ACI) recommends a minimum compressive of 4500 psi for air-entrained concrete mixes with a maximum water-cement ratio of 0.45 for outdoor concrete exposed to freezing conditions.

For drainage, the finished slab should slope at least /8 inch per foot, ideally 1/4 inch. 4500 PSI concrete ensures better impermeability and resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, making it suitable for driveways and exterior surfaces in harsh winters.

As part of our comprehensive service, we seal all driveways and garage. Concrete sealers play a vital role in protecting driveways from salt damage by preventing it from penetrating the surface. Salt can harm concrete in several ways, including freeze-thaw cycles, which weaken the material and lead to cracks, spalling, and discoloration. Additionally, the reaction between calcium hydroxide in concrete and calcium chloride from salt creates expanding calciumchloride crystals, resulting in cracks and crumbling.
